Deep in the Forest of Cicadas, there lived a peculiar lion—one unlike any other. Though lions were known as the kings of the jungle, this one was branded a coward. He never faced visitors—whether people or animals—and always fled, making him the laughingstock of the land.
But the lion had a secret, one that no other animal knew. Once, while chasing a wild boar through the dense forest, he had followed the creature to the edge of a hill. The boar leaped effortlessly, but when the lion tried to stop, he stumbled, crashing face-first into a massive stone. When he stood up, he realized with horror that all his teeth were gone. He could no longer hunt. Ashamed, he withdrew into his cave, abandoning his carnivorous ways to become a reluctant vegetarian.
One night, as he rested in his cave, a swarm of vampire bats attacked him. Defenseless without his teeth, he was left at their mercy—until help arrived. A group of birds rushed in to rescue him. At the lead was a parrot, the loudest voice in the forest and the announcer of the animal kingdom. Alongside him were doves and other small creatures who had long feared the mighty lion. But now, knowing he had lost his teeth, they no longer saw him as a threat. Instead, they befriended him, and from that day forward, the birds and the toothless lion shared his cave in harmony.
One fateful morning, a group of hunters entered the forest, seeking small animals and birds to capture. The terrified creatures flocked to the lion’s cave, begging him for help. But what could he do? He had no teeth. He could not fight.
Then the parrot had an idea.
"We will use your voice, Lion!" the parrot declared. "Roar with all your might, and I will amplify it! We will make the hunters think the king of the jungle is waiting inside."
The lion agreed. As the hunters neared the cave, the parrot signaled him, and the lion unleashed the loudest roar he had ever given. At the same time, the parrot mimicked the roar, filling the air with a terrifying, doubled sound. The hunters, hearing the echo of a powerful beast, panicked.
"A lion is here!" they shouted. "Run!"
Without a second thought, the hunters fled, never daring to return to the Forest of Cicadas again. The animals inside the cave celebrated their victory, rejoicing that they had protected their home. And from that day on, the small creatures no longer called the lion a coward. Though he had lost his teeth, he had not lost his strength.
He was, and always would be, the king of the jungle.
